Aaron Ramsey is still hoping Arsenal captain Robin van Persie will still stay at the club despite interest from Juventus, Manchester City and Manchester United.

The Netherlands international, who netted 30 league goals last term, has signalled his intent not to sign a new deal at The Emirates, with a year left on his current contract.

Van Persie’s announcement earlier this month has prompted interest from a host of top clubs but Arsenal midfielder Ramsey is still optimistic the skipper may have a change of heart and stay at The Emirates.

“He had a brilliant season last year and is a big player for us, so we are just hopeful that he will stay,” said Ramsey.

“We don’t know anything that goes on. We hope that he stays at Arsenal.”

On Friday, Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed United had made an offer for Van Persie, with the Premier League runners-up looking to bolster their squad as they aim to prevent City from retaining their top-flight crown.

“Obviously Arsenal have given out the fact that we’ve made a bid for him,” Ferguson told United’s website.

“We try to keep business as close as possible to us until the moment we conclude a deal. There’s no point talking about something that might not happen.

“There are other clubs interested in the player. We’ve shown an interest and that’s where we’re at the moment.”

Van Persie has scored 132 goals in 279 appearances for Arsenal after joining the Gunners from PSV Eindhoven in a £2.75m deal in 2004.
