The Gunners are reported to have had a bid in the region of £16m accepted by Cazorla’s current club Malaga this week, with a deal for the 27-year-old expected to be finalised in the coming days.
Arsène Wenger seems intent on getting the majority of his transfer dealings completed early this summer – and Arteta, who moved to The Emirates from Everton in a deadline-day scramble last year, holds Cazorla in high regard.
“I cannot talk about the actual situation but I can say that I know him as a player really well,” said Arteta.
“He’s a top, top player. He has got unbelievable quality and talent and that is all I can say.”
And Gunners boss Wenger remained typically coy when quizzed over the Spanish winger – but admitted he is an admirer of the former Villarreal player.
“I share the opinion of Mikel Arteta. Cazorla is a great player,” said Wenger. “We bought Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski but we are not at the end of the transfers. We will still bring players in.”
Meanwhile, Gunners midfielder Abou Diaby is focusing on staying fit for the whole of next season after the 26-year-old was limited to just six first-team appearances last term due to injury.
“I’m fit now,” he said. “I have been training since the beginning of pre-season and also did a rehabilitation session during my holidays – so now I feel great.
“I know that when I am fit, I can be good on the pitch. My main target this season is to be fit and if I am then everything will be good for me.”
