The Blues keeping a watch on Cavani

Chelsea may be able to steal prized Uruguay front man Edinson Cavani after his family fell victim to a second attack in their home town of Naples.

The leafy parks of Knightsbridge are looking more and more enticing for the striker – who scored 66 in 94 games since joining Napoli – after his wife was mugged on the way to her car, with a £14,500 Audermars watch taken.

Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis has slapped a €100m price tag on Cavani, who is in England preparing for the Olympics, but his agent hinted the attack, which follows a recent burglary of the couple’s home, may cause him to look elsewhere.

The striker led Napoli to their best run in Europe since the Diego Maradona era, however De Laurentiis is under real pressure to keep the squad together – Marek Hamsik – whose wife was also car-jacked last year – has committed to the club, but strike partner Ezequiel Lavezzi has already bolted for big-spending Paris Saint-Germain.

Chelsea have long coveted Cavani – whose physical presence would mark him as a tailor-made replacement for Didier Drogba – following his goal-scoring performance against them in the Champions League.

With Juventus also chasing Cavani’s signature, presumably Liverpool can be crossed off the list of possible destinations following the string of robberies that hit the homes of 21 footballers on Merseyside between 2008 and 2010.

Chelsea continue to chase Moses

Chelsea look set to continue their pursuit of Wigan winger Victor Moses, after tabling another bid for the Nigerian-born player. But do the Blues really need to add Moses to their squad following recent additions this summer?

Roman Abramovich’s side have already signed Eden Hazard, his brother Thorgan, Marko Marin and 20-year-old Oscar, and possess a side with quality midfielders.

Frank Lampard has signalled his intention to see out his career at the club, while Michael Essien, Jon Obi Mikel and the out-of-favour Yossi Benayoun provide a wealth of experience.

Roberto Di Matteo’s side also includes Ramires, Raul Meireles and Juan Mata, as well as youngsters such as Oriol Romeu, Kevin De Bruyne, Josh McEachran and Gael Kakuta.

Surely with such a large pool of midfielders to call upon, Moses would not be starting for Chelsea, and would struggle to get on the bench such is the depth of the squad?

The former Crystal Palace winger certainly had a good end to last season as Wigan Athletic avoided the drop, but is he worth £9m considering he will not be an integral part of the side?

It seems that following Chelsea’s Champions League victory last season, owner Abramovich is still not content and will continue pumping money into the club.
