Cole’s Liverpool return a good ‘signing’

Joe Cole showed glimpses of his undoubted talent while on loan at French club Lille last year, helping them to a third-place finish in Ligue 1 in the process.

The attacking midfielder scored six goals and made three assists in a campaign that consisted of mostly substitute appearances – not a bad return.

Cole is confident after speaking with Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers that he is “here for the season” and the 30-year-old former England international really could be a little gem for the Reds this season.

The former Chelsea and West Ham man is eager to make a lasting impression at Anfield after a difficult start following his 2010 summer signing in which he was largely used from the bench by Roy Hodgson and scored just three goals.

Cole revealed he feels rejuvenated after a good season of football in France, and last weekend, he featured in Liverpool’s pre-season game against Toronto as a second-half substitute in the 1-1 draw.

Rodgers could be the type of manager to bring out the best of the diminutive midfielder by playing him in the attacking style that earned him so many plaudits as Swansea boss.

Many would like to see Cole replicate his previous form at Chelsea, and with the playmaker enjoying his football again, his return can only be a positive for Liverpool, who are desperate to play their way back into the top four.

Kaká to City at long last?

With rumours flying around since early 2012 that Kaká could be leaving Real Madrid this summer, there will no doubt be many English clubs chasing his signature.

Manchester City had their £100m bid turned down last time an English club went in for the playmaker, with the Brazilian preferring a move to sunny Spain in 2009.

But – despite over 40 appearances this season for the club and 20 goals – Kaká seems unhappy with the La Liga champions – so is a move to England on the cards this time?

At 30, he might be getting on a little for a key frontman but there is no doubt that he is, and has been, one of the most talented footballers around.

Somewhat in the shadows of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi this season, it seems to be time for Kaká to be playing his football elsewhere.

So, perhaps we will finally see Kaká at Man City. Or who knows – he could end up back in Serie A?
