Steven Gerrard admits he is desperate to win more silverware before the Liverpool captain calls time on his decorated Anfield career.

The 32-year-old has scored 149 goals in 581 appearances for the Reds since making his debut against Blackburn Rovers in 1998, winning nine trophies.

But Gerrard has only won three cups in the past eight seasons, and the midfielder is hoping new Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers help the club achieve further success before he hangs up his boots.

“My motivation is the same as it was before I made my debut: I love playing for Liverpool,” Gerrard told Liverpool’s website.

“It’s my team, I support them, and I don’t like it when we get beat.

“There are a lot of exciting games coming up this season that I want to be a part of.

“The experiences like the Wembley trips and the Champions League finals, I’d like to have more good nights in a red shirt before I hang my boots up.”

Gerrard has seen three managers leave their Anfield post in as many years – and the England international is hoping Rodgers will bring much-needed stability to the Anfield outfit.

“The two cup runs last year were fantastic but usually a manager changing at Liverpool is down to what happens in Europe and what happens in the league,” he added.

“It’d be good for everyone at the club to get some stability now and give a manager some time to bring his ideas.

“You can’t expect it to happen overnight, and it’s important that the supporters and everyone is patient and have a lot of belief in this manager, because I certainly have.”
