Mathieu Debuchy has confirmed he wants to join Newcastle United this summer, despite the Lille right-back attracking interest from Internazionale.

The 26-year-old France defender was in impressive form for Laurent Blanc’s side at Euro 2012, prompting interest from a host of European clubs.

Debuchy has scored 17 goals in 288 appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit and won the French league and cup double with Lille in 2011.

Alan Pardew has enjoyed great success recruiting players from France in recent seasons, with Yohan Cabaye and Hatem Ben Arfa helping to inspire the Magpies to a fifth-place finish last term.

“That is my priority [to join Newcaslte], although Inter also enquired about me,” Debuchy told L’Equipe.

“I am committed 100 per cent to the fact I want to leave Lille, I want to discover another championship.

“The coach wants to keep me and I will not change his mind, but I will do everything I can to move elsewhere.”

However, Lille manager Rudi Garcia insisted Debuchy will not be allowed to leave the club unless the Ligue 1 outfit could find a suitable replacement.

“10, 15 players have been suggested to them and still nothing happens, there has to be some good will, it disappoints me and it bothers me,” he said.

“If we cannot find a new player, then Mathieu is under contract.”

Lille have already seen Joe Cole return to Liverpool following his season-long loan at Les Dogues, while Belgium midfielder Eden Hazard has joined Chelsea.
