West Ham United are being linked with a move for Liverpool striker Andy Carroll, with Sam Allardyce keen to make a marquee signing for the Hammers ahead of their return to the Premier League.

The 23-year-old has scored 11 goals in 56 appearances for the Reds since his £35m move from Newcastle United to Anfield in January 2011, and the speculation has prompted a mixed response from Twitter.

Here are some of the Tweets that caught our eye.

Jake Neal (‏@Neal1Jake) reckons Stoke City would be a good club for Carroll: “Stoke should be going after Carroll if West Ham are!”

But Reece Black ‏(@Reece_Black) apparently considers Carroll to be out of West Ham’s league: “West Ham being interested in Andy Carroll is basically like me saying I’m interested in Mila Kunis!”

Joe Brewer ‏(@joey_brew) thinks it would be an interesting move: “Andy Carroll on loan to West Ham, would love to see that!”

Jason Pettigrove ‏(@jasonpettigrove) can see the attraction for Carroll: “Interesting story Carroll to West Ham. His best mate Nolan is there, and he is an Allardyce type of player. Can’t see it happening though.”

Ipswich fan Oliver Sims ‏(@OliGSims) is tired of seeing West Ham linked with a host of different players: “Swear West Ham want every player! Interested in Carroll now! Who is next Lionel Messi?”

While Tottenham supporter Stuart Baker ‏(@stuart_thfc) finds the links to AC Milan and West Ham a bit strange: “What a come down for Andy Carroll – linked with AC Milan at the start of the week, by midweek linked with West Ham!”

But James Shipp ‏(@ShippSport) can see Carroll fitting in at Upton Park: “Think Andy Carroll would be a perfect signing for West Ham, and would no doubt fit in to Big Sam’s style of play. #aerial”

However, Adam Crafton ‏(@AdamCrafton_) thinks Carroll deserves another season at Liverpool: “No doubts West Ham serious about Andy Carroll given reports. But I think he deserves another year with Liverpool.”

Daniel Alister (‏@TheDanAlister) can’t see the deal going through: “This is ridiculous. Andy Carroll is and will be a brilliant striker, why would he want to go to West Ham even on a loan deal?”

While Ashley Ramsbottom (‏@ramsbollocks) would like to know what Carroll is thinking: “£35m just to be loaned out to West Ham. What a farce. Carroll must feel dejected!”

Finally, Mike Dorricott ‏(@mdorricott) has an idea for any potential loan deal: “Carroll heading to West Ham on loan. One clause – Liverpool insist that he MUST play whenever the two sides meet.”
