João Moutinho appears closer to a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur after Porto boss Vitor Pereira hinted that the midfielder could leave the Portuguese club this summer.

Spurs have been heavily linked with a swoop for the 25-year-old this summer, speculation that has heightened since Andre Villas-Boas took charge at White Hart Lane.

Moutinho is believed to have a €40m (£31m) release clause in his contract and Pereira appears to have admitted that the player could be sold if the club’s valuation is met.

“I have not spoken with Villas-Boas, but it is natural that he likes Moutinho,” said Pereira. “I like him, too.

“Clubs cannot just not sell. We really want him to stay, but this is football and there are release clauses.

“The only thing we can do is achieve results with what we have got.”
