Yaya Toure has challenged Manchester City improve their Champions League performances next season.

Roberto Mancini’s side failed to reach the second round in 2011, with Bayern Munich and Napoli finishing ahead of the Eastlands outfit in Group A.

Toure, who helped City end their 44-year wait for the top-flight crown in May, admitted defending their Premier League title will be a key objective next term but also acknowledged that Mancini’s side need to make progress in Europe’s premier competition.

“I believe we can do it again and we have to go higher,” Toure told Sky Sports News. “The priority is the Premier League and go as far as possible in the Champions League.”

He added: “It is important we continue to improve and we hope we can be successful this year as it is an exciting year for us and for the
fans.

“I have been here two years now and won two cups and now we need more and if we sign players this summer I hope they will be fantastic players.”

Meanwhile, the former Barcelona midfielder’s brother Kolo says confidence is high at the Eastlands outfit and there is a strong belief that they can retain their league crown.

“We know how to win and now we have to work hard and give 100 per cent every game,” said the defender.

“The Premier League is the hardest in the world and five or six clubs could be champion and for us we will just focus on us and do our best.”
