The reports come after Gunners accepted a £14.9m offer for Alex Song from Barcelona on Saturday – and the club’s supporters welcomed the move for the Turkey midfielder on Twitter.

Here are some of the Tweets that caught our eye.

Liverpool fan Liam Tomkins (‏@liam_tomkins) can understand why Sahin opted for Arsenal: “Can’t begrudge Nuri Sahin choosing a Champions League club. Admire the ambition in going for him, but ultimately out of #LFC’s reach at this time.”

Arsenal fan Matthew Aguilera (‏@Matt_Aguilera) is delighted by the reports: “It’s ok! Nuri Sahin is going to turn up at Arsenal after all. He’s a bit tasty apparently.”

Arsenal News ‏(@AfcGoonerNews) is revelling in the news the Gunners have apparently pipped Liverpool to the midfielder’s signature: “Good news, Nuri Sahin deal is likely to include purchase at end of season option, for as little as £10m. #LFC have been robbed.”

Now, Femi Martins Oki (‏@yardboy85) wants a further two midfielders: “Wenger must try and get Adam Johnson and M’Villa with Nuri Sahin, we will be set for the whole season #Arsenal!”

But Aza Hoque ‏(@luzariz) reckons the loan signing shows Arsenal’s diminishing stature: “Nuri Sahin on loan? Big clubs don’t get players on loan!”

Joe Holt (‏@Joe_Holt15) hails Sahin’s imminent arrival: “Announced on radio that we basically have Nuri Sahin! Midfield will be epic. All we need now is a decent winger in my opinion. Walcott out!”

Connor Wilton (‏@ConnorJayWilton) is pleased to see Wenger making a signing after Song joined Barcelona on Saturday: “Looks like Nuri Sahin is set to join Arsenal on loan, with an option to buy at the end of the year. Good acquisition after losing Song!”

Arsenal fan 50ShadesOfMattGray ‏(@MattGray97) believes Sahin will prove to be better than Song: “Nuri Sahin is better than Alex Song. Once again, fantastic business by Wenger.”

And Sean Fahey ‏(@seanytomas) reckons Arsenal will have the best midfield in the Premier League:“Nuri Sahin signed on loan with a view to a permanent deal, get in there. United may have the best attack but we’ve got the best midfield.”

Finally, Sanj Bharadva ‏(@sanjbharadva) is excited by Sahin – on YouTube: “Nuri Sahin loaned to Arsenal will be confirmed this week. Fantastic player, check out some of his goals and assists on YouTube. Fabulous!”
