Alex Song is set to sign for Barcelona on Monday after the Catalan club agreed a £14.9m fee for the midfielder with Arsenal.

The 24-year-old will become the second Gunners player to leave the club this week following Robin van Persie’s £24m switch to Manchester United.

News of Song’s exit prompted a huge reaction on Twitter. Here are some of the Tweets that caught our eye.

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand (‏@rioferdy5) is surprised by the transfer: “Wow, Song is going to Barcelona now…. @piersmorgan ??”

Scuba ‏(@ScubaUK) reckons Song is a better Javier Mascherano: “Song basically does everything Mascherano does, only much better, and can do lots of other things as well. £15m is a steal.”

Luke Griffiths ‏(@LukeGriffiths10) can’t understand Song’s decision: “Why has Alex Song gone to Barca? What an idiot. Have fun warming the bench you imbecile.”

Amranjitn ‏(@unicornrules) is frustrated by Arsenal’s recent sales: “Arsenal is a feeder club – I’m frustrated now it’s Alex Song, next will be Theo Walcott – why don’t you leave Mr Wenger … #arsenal @piersmorgan”

And Kalpesh Patel (‏@Kp187) also feels the Gunners are becoming a feeder club: “Alex Song to Barça yet more proof that Arsenal are a selling club. Yes they have replacements but after today’s performance they may regret!”

Jamie Ryan ‏(@jamieryan10) is upset by Song’s exit after Van Persie’s move to Manchester United earlier this week: “I can’t believe we’re selling Alex Song as well, our second best player now gone as well #Arsenal!”

Chris Clague (‏@ChrisClague) is upset by Wenger’s decision to sell Song: “Hold on.. We’re actually getting rid of Alex Song as well? RVP wasn’t too bad, but Song had great potential! Can’t see us replacing him! Grr”

Paul Baker (‏@PaulioBaker) identifies Yann M’Villa as Song’s replacement: “First of all @Persie_Official leaves Arsenal and now Alex Song! What is going on with my beloved #AFC? Please oh please get Yann M’Villa!!”

But Nick Palser ‏(@npalser89) would prefer Cheick Tioté: “His disciplinary record is shocking, but Tioté seems like the perfect replacement for Alex Song. #afc”

Traffic (‏@pappychullo) can’t understand why Barcelona sold Yaya Toure: “You sell Yaya Toure to later buy Alex Song who is still not as good as Yaya..something wrong there!”

Finally, Steven Gill ‏(@DaGill90) defends Arsène Wenger: “So Alex Song is going to Barcelona, well we do need to sign at least two more players but everyone lay off Wenger, he knows what he’s doing.”
