David Moyes is hoping to bring in some new faces at Everton before the transfer window closes, with Jack Rodwell’s move to Manchester City helping to raise funds at Goodison Park.

The 21-year-old signed a five-year deal with the Premier League champions after completing a £12m switch to the Eastlands outfit last week.

And Moyes is backing Rodwell to be a success at City but vowed to reinvest some of the money raised from the transfer.

“I had known about it for a while and I thought it was something that was right for Jack and right for Everton,” Moyes told the Daily Star.

“It was something which I felt at this moment in time was right. It gave Jack an opportunity to go to a really good club and take his chances there.

“It gives us a chance to do a little bit more business in the transfer market having raised the money.”

Everton have been linked with a host of players over the course of the summer, with reported Liverpool target Clint Dempsey the latest man said to be on Moyes’ radar.

Earlier this week, England manager Roy Hodgson revealed his concern that Rodwell would struggle to hold down a regular starting spot in Roberto Mancini’s first-team at City.

“I’ll be honest, I think this year there’ll be quite a few times I have to select players who won’t be in their team,” Hodgson said.

“I don’t know how many starts Jack Rodwell will get at Manchester City. That’s a risk, but it’s the nature of the Premier League.

“There are so few English players in the league, and many of them playing for the same club.”

Rodwell scored nine goals in 109 appearances for the Toffees after making his first-team debut against Sunderland in March 2008.
