Jose Mourinho has revealed he is desperate to see Brendan Rodgers taste success at Liverpool.

The Reds manager worked under the current Real Madrid boss during Mourinho’s three-year reign at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea won back-to-back Premier League titles.

Rodgers coached both the Chelsea youth team and reserve team before Mourinho left the Blues in 2008, eventually joining Serie A outfit Internazionale.

Mourinho’s former assistant, Steve Clarke, also took up the vacant managerial position at West Bromwich Albion earlier this summer, as the Portuguese coach’s ex-employees look to leave their own marks on the Premier League.

“Brendan was a young guy when he started working at Chelsea. He had lots of energy, lots of enthusiasm, very good ideas,” Mourinho told BBC Sport.

“He was learning but also showing his ideas, sharing things.

“I enjoyed very much working with Brendan and we keep in touch. I am not saying every day or every week, but we keep in touch a lot because it’s the kind of feeling we want to keep forever.

“I want him to be a success, to keep doing things well. I am so happy they [he and Steve Clarke] are on top.”
