Tom Cleverley has revealed he is raring to go ahead of the new Premier League campaign after the Manchester United midfielder impressed at London 2012.

The 22-year-old started every game for Stuart Pearce’s Team GB side as they reached the quarter-finals of the tournament before being beaten by South Korea on penalties.

Cleverley missed large portions of last season due to a niggling foot injury, but the midfielder feels in top shape for the new campaign after featuring in United’s 4-3 victory over Hannover 96 on Sunday.

“I’ve been away for a few weeks now but to come back into a good game in a good stadium and be playing with the world class players we’ve got only helps your game, so it’s good to be back,” Cleverley told United’s website.

“I think the Olympics has been good for me. I’ve got six games under my belt including the two friendlies so I feel 100 per cent. I’m happy and looking forward to the season.”

Red Devils assistant manager Mike Phelan was impressed by Cleverley’s display in the club’s final pre-season friendly – but Sir Alex Ferguson’s number two admitted the midfielder’s Team GB team-mate Ryan Giggs will need longer to recover from the Olympic campaign.

“I thought Tom looked very, very sharp,” said Phelan. “He’s played quite a few games for the GB team so he’s probably ahead of schedule in some respects.

“Ryan probably needs to feel his way through it a little bit more, but Tom played a very, very good game for us tonight.”
