Davide Santon wants to stay at Newcastle United despite interest from Lazio and Roma, according to the player’s agent.

The 21-year-old was impressive in his first season at the St James’ Park outfit, making 24 appearances for the Magpies following his £5.3m switch from Internazionale last August.

The Italy international has already been the subject of a bid from Roma this summer but agent Renzo Contratto dismissed reports linking his client with a return to Serie A.

“I rule out his return to Italy. There are no negotiations with other clubs. He wants to remain at Newcastle,” Contratto told Tele Radio Stereo.

“The market may always open up new scenarios, but for now this is the situation.”

Meanwhile, Newcastle manager Alan Pardew insists he is “relaxed” despite a relatively quiet summer of transfer activity.

United have been heavily linked with a move for Lille’s Mathieu Debuchy, but the Toon boss admitted the matter is now out of his hands, with the club’s hierarchy dealing with any potential deals.

“Whether we’ll get the guys we want in time for the season, I don’t know,” Pardew told BBC Sport.

“I’m relaxed as these guys did a great job last year and I’d have no problem picking from the group we have now.”

“Obviously I want to strengthen, but patience is the key. I’m out of it now really, I’ve made my selections of who we think will take the team forward.

“Now it’s about Lee [Charnley – club secretary] and Derek [Llambias – managing director] trying to get a deal that works for us and for the club who have the player.

“I’ve left it to them and now we’ll wait.”
