QPR’s Shaun Derry: New signings already settled at Loftus Road
Queens Park Rangers defender Shaun Derry says Mark Hughes' seven summer signings are already settling in at Loftus Road
Shaun Derry believes Mark Hughes’ summer signings are already starting to gel at Queens Park Rangers ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
QPR boss Hughes has signed seven players in a busy summer of transfer activity, with Rob Green, Ryan Nelsen, Fabio Da Silva, Park Ji-Sing, Samba Diakite and Andy Johnson all moving to the Loftus Road outfit.
“It’s going well. When you make so many changes in personnel it will always take time to gel, but without tempting fate it looks like we’re gelling quite quickly and long may that continue,” Derry told QPR’s website.
“We know each other’s personalities now and good players can play with good players, so we’re in decent shape.”
QPR eased to a 3-0 victory over Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday night, and the Hoops are now unbeaten in four successive pre-season friendlies.
And Derry, who made 29 appearances last season, believes their form ahead of the new campaign can only be of benefit to Hughes’ squad as the London outfit look to cement their Premier League status.
“A winning mentality goes a long way, of course it does,” he added. “Ask any manager or player and they’ll tell you they want to win football matches, regardless of whether it’s a competitive fixture or just a friendly.
“I know that in my time in football that if you’ve had some decent results in pre-season then you’ll head into the campaign on a high.
“I’ve been in the reverse position as well and when you’re losing games you don’t want the season to start.
“For us, it’s important we get that winning mentality in pre-season, even if they are games we’re expected to win.
“Everyone loves winning football matches and we’re no different.”
