Mark Hughes has revealed Queens Park Rangers are “very close” to signing former Chelsea defender Jose Bosingwa.

The 29-year-old is available on a free transfer after being released by the Champions League winners earlier this summer.

Hughes has already snapped up free agents Robert Green, Andy Johnson and Ryan Nelsen during the current transfer window, and the Hoops boss admitted right-back Bosingwa would be another excellent signing.

“We’re having discussions with the boy and his advisors. It’s something we’re keen to do if we can. We think we’re very close,” said Hughes.

“Hopefully in the next few hours we will have a better understanding if a deal is possible.

“I think we’re very close to being able to bring him in.”

He added: “He’s the right quality. He’s got a lot of football left him in as well, he’s only 29, so we’d be delighted if we could bring him to the club.

“I think he now understands what we are trying to do here and that’s why players of his ilk are considering coming to QPR.”

Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves was linked with a permanent move to QPR after the London outfit granted the England international permission to use the club’s Harlington training ground in June.

However, the 48-year-old QPR manager revealed Hargreaves, who is a free agent following his release by Manchester City, is no longer using the Hoops’ facilities.

“At the time we offered Owen the chance to come and train and use our facilities. He took that up for a week or so,” added Hughes.

“But he’s no longer with us, it was just an opportunity to give him some first-team training.”
