Roberto Soldado has ruled out a move to Tottenham after Valencia rejected an offer from Spurs for the striker.

Andre Villas-Boas has made no secret of his desire to sign a new forward this summer, with a deal for Manchester City’s Emmanuel Adebayor yet to materialise.

Soldado, who scored an impressive 17 goals in 32 appearances in La Liga last season, was aware of Tottenham’s interest but the 27-year-old insists he is not looking to leave the Mestalla.

“I know about Tottenham’s interest,” Soldado told a news conference. “My representatives told me about it – they made an offer but it was rejected because, when I signed a new deal in the close-season, it was made very clear that I intend to honour it.

“My loyalty to Valencia is total – I want to play here and there are many things to achieve with this great team.”

Tottenham have also been linked with a move for Athletic Bilbao forward Fernando Llorente, who is stalling over a new deal at the Basque club.

“In this market it’s important to make good, sound bids, not just to do anything for the sake of it,” Villas-Boas said last week.

“We are hopefully moving in the market in the next couple of days or weeks.

“We are trying to deal with the market. Lots of teams are having difficulty, there’s not a lot of money around and teams try to hold onto their assets as best they can.

“We’re just trying to make the best decisions possible before the start of the league – hopefully trying to solve the issue with one more striker before the Newcastle game.”
