Victor Moses has been given permission to hold talks with Chelsea over a possible transfer to Stamford Bridge after Wigan Athletic accepted the Blues’ fifth bid for the winger on Thursday.

The 21-year-old has been relentlessly linked with a move to west London this summer but Chelsea’s offers for the winger did not meet the Latics’ valuation of the player.

However, Wigan confirmed on Thursday that a fifth bid – believed to be in the region of £9m – had been accepted by the club and Moses is to hold talks with the Londoners.

“The club can confirm that after four unsuccessful bids from Chelsea for Victor Moses, a fifth bid has today finally met the valuation and terms set by Wigan Athletic and been accepted,” read a Wigan Athletic statement.

“The player has been given permission to speak with Chelsea.”

Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo last week revealed his admiration for the former Crystal Palace player.

“He’s a young, talented guy that plays for Wigan,” said Di Matteo last Friday. “We know very well what ability he has.

“We don’t really talk about our transfer policy. We just keep ourselves open for any opportunities and see what the next two weeks will throw up.”
