David Moyes claimed referee Mike Jones missed two Everton goals after the Toffees were held to a dramatic draw by Newcastle United on Monday night.

Leighton Baines gave the home side a first-half lead after a neat exchange with Steven Pienaar cut open the Magpies defence, with the left-back firing past Steve Harper.

However, substitute Demba Ba levelled for the visitors with a composed finish before Victor Anichebe’s header was adjudged not to have crossed the line, with Marouane Fellaini also having a strike cancelled out for a dubious offside.

Moyes’ men seemed to have snatched a deserved win when Anchiebe finished from close range in the 88th minute, but Papiss Cisse and Ba combined to help the latter net his second of the night and seal a point for Newcastle.

“There are two goals missed and we can’t get them back. I had a word with the officials but I was not in there ranting and raving,” said Moyes.

“I said ‘you have missed two goals’ but what can I do about it? We played very well and should have won the game deservedly but didn’t.”

“The tools will come in eventually to help officials but I think the job is to look along the line and hopefully get it right when the ball has crossed the line.”

He added: “Even from where I was I thought Marouane Fellaini’s goal was a goal so I was surprised when it was given offside.

“We should have been out of sight by half-time and when it was still 1-0 Alan Pardew was probably delighted.”

Pardew backed Moyes and admitted Anichebe’s header should have stood, with the Newcastle manager calling for goal-line technology.

“The header from Anichebe was definitely a goal,” he added. “My technical team have told me it was over the line. I have been saying for as long as anybody technology must come in and it has cost Everton a crucial goal here.”
