Man City 2 Aston Villa 4: Roberto Mancini admitted his disappointment at watching his side crash out of Capital One Cup
Roberto Mancini admitted Aston Villa were deserved winners after Manchester City were knocked out of the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night.
City had taken the lead in the 27th minute through Mario Balotelli, but Gareth Barry’s own goal against his former club restored parity after the break.
Aleksandar Kolarov’s free-kick gave Mancini’s men the lead again but Gabriel Agbonlahor netted in the 70th minute to force the third-round clash into extra-time.
Charles N’Zogbia’s 96th-minute strike put the visitors ahead, before Agbonlahor’s deflected effort sealed a memorable win for Paul Lambert’s men.
“We were unlucky because we had chances but we conceded goals which we made mistakes on and they deserved to go through,” said Mancini.
“I’m disappointed for the result, Aston Villa are a good team but we didn’t play well. Our play is not quick, we want to take one touch too many – this is not good.
“Conceding goals is a real problem, we need to work with our defenders because we aren’t defending well at the moment.
“It’s the fourth competition but it’s the only one we haven’t won and for this reason we wanted to win – we are so disappointed.”
