Nuri Sahin could make his Liverpool debut against Arsenal on Sunday, Reds manager Brendan Rodgers confirms
Brendan Rodgers has revealed that Nuri Sahin could make his Premier League debut for Liverpool against Arsenal, one of the other clubs who were keen to sign the Real Madrid midfielder this summer.
Sahin sealed a season-long loan switch to Anfield last week after being linked with both the Reds and the Gunners during the transfer window.
Arsenal were thought to be in prime position to sign the Turkey international before Liverpool struck a deal to bring him to Anfield last Saturday.
And the Liverpool boss admits the 23-year-old could feature against the Londoners as Arsene Wenger’s side make the trip to Merseyside on Sunday lunchtime.
Rodgers said: “Yes [he is in contention to feature on Sunday]. Nuri has come here determined to be a success and that’s the type of player that we want.
“You see him in training and he’s got good technique. He understands the game and he plays with a smile on his face.
“He’s got a wonderful left foot. He’s a good guy and he is very intelligent off the field. He speaks five languages and so his ability to communicate is very good.
“He doesn’t waste his time doing other things. He’s 23 years of age – his family and his football are his life.”
Both Liverpool and Arsenal are yet to record their first Premier League wins of the season – and Rodgers is braced for a difficult clash against the Gunners.
“We know the size of the task,” he continued. “We’ve got a very, very difficult game against Arsenal.
“Liverpool lost to them last year having played well but went down 2-1. So we’re hoping that we can change that and look to be better.
“Arsenal have been consistently in the top four positions for many years and they will be looking to challenge up there again this year.”
