QPR defender Clint Hill targets run in the Capital One Cup
QPR defender Clint Hill says he is eyeing a cup run with the Hoops ahead of their Capital One Cup third-round tie against Reading
Clint Hill is targeting a cup run with Queens Park Rangers ahead of their Capital One Cup third-round tie against Reading on Wednesday.
QPR have endured a winless start to their Premier League campaign following losses to Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur, while holding Chelsea to a goalless draw.
With Mark Hughes’ squad still taking shape, Hill is hoping QPR’s new-look side can progress in the competition, which in turn could have a positive impact on their league form.
“I haven’t had a cup run for years so it’s exciting as a player to hear the manager saying he wants to do well in this competition,” Hill told QPR’s website.
“It’s always nice to progress in the cup, it excites people so hopefully we can do well tonight. If you win a few cup games it really does give you confidence to take into the league.
“In some ways it’s nice not having the pressure of winning league points when you play in the cup. Perhaps it allows you to express yourself more, but there is still pressure on you to win the game.”
Hill is expecting a tough test against newly-promoted Reading at Loftus Road, but the centre-half is confident if QPR can replicate their performance at White Hart Lane on Sunday, then Hughes’ side can move into the next round.
“Reading are a good team and we know it is going to be a hard game tonight but hopefully we can get that win, and take that into our league form,” he added.
“We feel we have played well in the last couple of games and we want to keep that momentum going.”
