Thomas Vermaelen confident Arsenal can get a result at Man City
Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen is convinced the Gunners can beat defending champions Manchester City next Sunday
Thomas Vermaelen is convinced Arsenal can get a result when the Gunners travel to defending Premier League champions Manchester City next Sunday.
Arsene Wenger’s men recorded their second win of the season with a 6-1 drubbing of Southampton at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday to hoist the north Londoners up into third place in the table.
And Gunners captain Vermaelen says Arsenal’s new-found confidence has left them feeling they can beat anyone – including Roberto Mancini’s men.
“Manchester City are the champions from last year so it won’t be easy. We have to go there and play our own game – I am confident we can get a result there,” Vermaelen told Arsenal Player.
“The team has a strong bond in the dressing room and outside as well. It feels good. All of the players, especially the guys who came in, look good. Everybody plays with a lot of confidence and that is good.”
Despite impressive performances in their last two Premier League outings, Vermaelen has warned his team-mates to maintain their focus ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Ligue 1 holders Montpellier in the Champions League group stage.
“We have to stay focused because there are a few hard games coming up,” he continued.
“We have to play away at Montpellier on Tuesday and then we have Manchester City so it is not going to be easy. It is good for confidence, we are happy today but Tuesday is another game.
“The Champions League is always different so that will be a test as well, especially away from home.”
