Tottenham 0 Lazio 0: Andre Villas-Boas believes his side deserved the three points after being held by Italian visitors
Andre Villas-Boas felt his Tottenham side deserved three points after they were held to a goalless draw by Lazio in their Europa League opener on Thursday.
Clint Dempsey saw his first-half header ruled out for a marginal offside, and Steven Caulker’s late effort found the net at White Hart Lane but was disallowed for pushing.
Villas-Boas, who won the competition with Porto in 2010-11, was thrilled with his side’s display despite again being denied his first home win as Spurs boss.
“I think we did enough to get the win today. I am extremely happy with the performance and the effort that the players put in,” said Villas-Boas.
“You can’t reprimand them for anything, they were outstanding, they managed to create enough opportunities to win the game.
“The team put the ball in the back of the net three times, but all the goals were disallowed by the ref, so it’s a bit disappointing.”
“It shows that we are on the right track to giving something back to the fans. We were superior against a team that is doing extremely well. We can be happy with that performance.”
