Tottenham’s Andre Villas-Boas: Hugo Lloris will get his chance ‘very soon’
Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas says Hugo Lloris will get his chance soon after Brad Freidel started against QPR
Andre Villas-Boas has promised that Hugo Lloris will “get his chance very soon” after the Tottenham Hotspur manager reinstated Brad Friedel for their 2-1 victory over Queens Park Rangers.
The American produced another impressive display to deny the Hoops, with one particularly spectacular save from Junior Hoilett, as Alejandro Faurlín’s own goal and Jermain Defoe’s 199th strike sealed Spurs’ first home win.
Lloris made his Spurs debut in the goalless draw against Lazio in their opening Europa League game on Thursday after making a €10m switch to White Hart Lane.
But with Friedel in top form, Villas-Boas admitted Lloris will have to wait for his opportunity to make his first appearance in the English top flight.
“We don’t doubt Hugo’s dimension and talent but at the moment we are paying respect to a player who is performing very well,” said VilLas-Boas.
“At the right time we will think about it or not and Hugo is an extremely good professional.
“He wants to come back into the team but he is competing for the jersey and he will get his chance very soon.”
Villas-Boas also heaped praise on Defoe, who scored Tottenham’s winner to take the England striker’s tally to four goals this season.
“He [Defoe] is performing at the top level,” Villas-Boas added.
“He has had his opportunities this season and he is taking them tremendously.
“This summer I had conversations with him and his agent and told them that I am a person who respects people who are performing well and he deserved a lot of credit for the goals he scored last season.
“This season he is facing tough competition from [Emmanuel] Adebayor and Clint Dempsey, but he keeps on performing. The competition is making him tick.”
