US Open 2012: Victoria Azarenka admits her delight at knocking out defending champion Sam Stosur to reach semi-finals
Victoria Azarenka could not hide her delight at knocking out defending US Open champion Sam Stosur to reach the semi-finals at Flushing Meadows for the first time – and now has her eyes set on the title.
Azarenka battled to a 6-1 4-6 7-6 (7-5) victory over her Australian opponent after taking the first set in 30 minutes and will next face either Maria Sharapova or Marion Bartoli for a place in the final.
“Being in the semi-finals in the US Open for the first time is incredible feeling for me,” said Azarenka. “I don’t want to stop. I really want it bad. I’m going to do absolutely everything I have to give it all here.
“I’m really looking forward to play the tough battles I have still in the tournament.”
The Belarusian claimed her maiden Grand Slam title on the hard courts at the Australian Open back in January and the 23-year-old says she is fully focused on winning more Major titles.
“I feel like I will never be satisfied sometimes,” she continued. “Even though I’m at the peak of my career right now, I feel like I want to do better. The ambitions are really high, but I don’t like to jump ahead too much.”
