Mark Hughes believes Queens Park Rangers “owe” their supporters a positive result against Chelsea in the west London derby on Saturday.

The 48-year-old QPR boss recruited 11 new players during the summer transfer window, including Real Madrid midfielder Esteban Granero.

Despite QPR owner Tony Fernandes investing heavily to rejuvenate Hughes’ squad, the Hoops are yet to win a match after defeats by Swansea and Manchester City, plus a draw at Norwich.

“QPR fans are fantastic and our home support is second to none and I would expect them to get behind our team and obviously be really supportive of what we’re trying to do and inspire us to a performance,” said Hughes.

“We actually owe them something because the last time out in the Premier League wasn’t what we wanted to produce for them, so we’ll be trying to put that right.”

Hughes also revealed the international break has given him a chance to work with the majority of QPR’s squad, and he is expecting a much-improved performance against Chelsea.

“We’ve had a good build up,” added Hughes. “We haven’t had that many people away from the club on international duty so we’ve had the whole group available.

“So we’ve had two weeks where we’ve been able to put some good work into people so we expect a good performance.”

He added: “We had a poor first game, but we were better against Norwich and Manchester City even though we were beaten in our last outing.

“We had a setback in the first game, but apart from that we’ve shown a steady improvement. I expect further improvement against Chelsea at the weekend.”
