Arsenal chief Ivan Gazidis hails ‘fantastic’ Liverpool philosophy
Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis hails Brendan Rodgers' decision to give youth a chance to impress at Liverpool
Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis has praised Liverpool’s youth policy under Brendan Rodgers and believes the approach is a key foundation stone for long-term success.
Rodgers has opted to give youngsters such as Raheem Sterling and Jonjo Shelvey regular spots in his first team this season as the Northern Irishman attempts stamp his identity on the Anfield club.
And Gunners supremo Gazidis has backed Rodgers’ “brave” philosophy and is convinced it will pay dividends as the season progresses.
“We need to create an environment where managers can be braver and we can give young players a chance,” said Gazidis.
“Liverpool have been fantastic this year, they have some young players coming through their system and really generating tremendous excitement within their team because they are being given an opportunity to play.
“It would have been very easy for Liverpool not to have that pathway for those young players, much easier than taking the risk of giving them a chance.
“That’s critical, it’s about philosophy within a club and that’s what gives you resilience and gives you real strength and a foundation for success.”
