Belgium v Scotland: Darren Fletcher insists the squad are enjoying life under Craig Levein despite a difficult run of results
Darren Fletcher insists the Scotland squad are enjoying life under Craig Levein despite a difficult run of results in their World Cup qualifying campaign.
Gareth Bale’s brace helped Wales to come from behind and seal a 2-1 victory over Levein’s men on Friday night, leaving Scotland in fourth place in Group A, with just two points from three games following draws against Macedonia and Serbia.
The Scotland manager is under huge pressure to deliver a much-needed victory in Belgium on Tuesday night, and Manchester United midfielder Fletcher insisted there is still a belief in the squad.
“We’ve seen the work he puts in, the way he treats the players, the attention to detail that goes in to every game,” said Fletcher.
“Everything about it, it’s a really good setup to be involved in, I think all the players genuinely enjoy being here.
“Sometimes they can be long these international trips but they don’t feel as long because we know the detail that goes in from the manager, he treats us like adults, with respect, we’re allowed to voice our opinions but ultimately he has the final decision and everyone respects him for that.
“The lads are desperate to go out, there’s a belief in the team, in the group, from the management to the staff to the players, everyone involved that we haven’t got the results our performances deserved.”
