Fernando Torres believes it is a “question of time” before his Chelsea team-mate Juan Mata is handed a Spain recall.

Manager Vicente Del Bosque has not included the Blues playmaker in his squad for their forthcoming games against Belarus and France despite Mata’s impressive club form.

The former Valencia man, who moved to Chelsea in August 2011, netted in Spain 4-0 victory over Italy in the Euro 2012 final, and Torres revealed Mata is disappointed with his exclusion.

“He’s sad about not being here but the level at which he’s playing he doesn’t have to worry, it’s just a question of time before he returns,” said Torres.

“I’m sure that he has a very good present and future in this team and will be very important.”

The Chelsea striker was forced to fight for his place earlier this year after a difficult start to his career at Stamford Bridge, and Torres admitted Del Bosque is blessed with a plethora of talented players to choose from.

“These days it’s very tough to get in the national squad, we have very versatile players and this is very useful taking into account how the team plays,” Torres added.

“We are very fortunate to have many more than 23 capable players. We know how tough it is to be left out and we have to feel very fortunate.”

“The national team does not always play with the same players, there are players who come in and others who go out. This is the great thing about this team, we have 23 players who can be starters.”
