England v San Marino: Hart refusing to get carried away by Rooney praise
England v San Marino: Joe Hart says he can't afford to get carried away by recent praise from Three Lions captain Wayne Rooney
Joe Hart has vowed to remain level-headed despite England captain Wayne Rooney describing the Manchester City star as the best goalkeeper in the world.
The Red Devils striker Tweeted his praise after an eye-catching display by the Citizens shot-stopper in a 1-1 draw with Borussia Dortmund last week.
The 25-year-old is widely regarded as one of Europe’s top goalkeepers since usurping Shay Given and becoming a first-team regular under City boss Roberto Mancini.
Hart welcomed Rooney’s kind words, but the former Shrewsbury Town youth graduate insisted he is not getting carried away by the praise.
“It’s a special honour for some special people to say some nice things, but we move on,” said Hart. “In goal, you can be the worst in the world two days later.”
“You’ve got to remain level-headed. If you don’t, it’s a big slap when you do something wrong.
“People are going to say bad things about you but that’s football. You can’t go too far one way or the other or you leave yourself vulnerable.”
