Sascha Riether has hailed Dimitar Berbatov as a “great player” ahead of Fulham’s home tie against fellow high-flyers Everton at Craven Cottage on Saturday.

Martin Jol’s side shared a thrilling 3-3 draw with Reading last weekend to keep the Cottagers in the hunt for a Europa League place.

Fulham, who are unbeaten in their last three games, are two points being fifth-placed Everton, and Riether has pinpointed their Bulgarian striker as the Cottagers’ key man in the hunt for a European spot.

The 31-year-old scored a sumptuous curling effort against the Royals to take his tally to three goals since joining from Manchester United this summer.

“We know that Berba’s a great player and we saw that again [at Reading],” the defender told the Fulham Chronicle.

“His goal was unbelievable. He can always keep the ball and he’s a very important player for us.

“We saw when he was not there – when he was injured and did not play – that we did not have the player at the front who could keep the ball for us, and it’s good to have him back.

“Our game is to always play to Berba’s feet.”

Berbatov has scored three goals against David Moyes’ men during spells with Tottenham Hotspur and United after moving to the Premier League in 2006.

Fulham have failed to beat Everton in their last six games, including a 3-1 defeat in west London in 2011 before losing 4-0 to the Toffees at Goodison Park in April.
