Wayne Rooney netted his 32nd England goal but the Three Lions were held to a 1-1 draw with Poland in their rescheduled World Cup qualifier in Warsaw.

The Manchester United striker gave England the lead midway through the first half before Kamil Glik’s header secured a point for the home side in the 71st minute.

Here is the best of the Twitter reaction from the professionals, in chronological order.

Former Bradford manager Chris Kamara ‏(@chris_kammy) is getting a bit carried away: “Rooney scores and it’s 1-0 to England, nobody on the posts for them from a corner. Brazil here we come!”

Everton captain Phil neville18 ‏(@fizzer18) is pleased to see his club team-mate performing: “[Phil] Jagielka playing well!”

Blackpool midfielder Thomas Ince (‏@RealThomasInce) is impressed by a certain Borussia Dortmund striker: “Roberto Lewandowski #baller!”

Football League journeyman Steve Claridge (‏@ClaridgeSteve) is not impressed by England’s first-half display: “Goal covering up a poor performance, Cleverly wide “left” (or rather not) upsets balance of side, leaving no width and Ashley Cole exposed!”

Former England international Peter Reid ‏(@reid6peter) is not impressed: “How bad are we? We are 1-0 up how?”

Ex-Crystal Palace striker Mark Bright ‏(@Mark__Bright) hopes Roy Hodgson is delivering an inspiring half-time speech: “Roy’s team talk right now, ‘Lads, pass the ball to someone wearing the same coloured shirt as you! We we’re in Blue today.’ #eng”

Tottenham youngster Alex Pritchard (‏@pritch_93) points out a rare Joe Hart mistake for Poland’s goal: “First mistake I’ve seen Joe Hart make #flapping!”

Former Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre (‏@IamMSilvestre) keeps it succinct: “Joe Hart …”

England legend Gary Lineker ‏(@GaryLineker) is concerned: “Get a grip England! The thought of a World Cup in Brazil without us is too awful to contemplate.”

Former Chelsea midfielder Jody Morris ‏(@morriskid) feels it is typical England: “This has been another classic, rigid, stiff, no angles on the ball, give the ball away, typical England performance..Poland by far better team!”

Marseille midfielder Joey Barton ‏(@Joey7Barton) is content with a point: “Thought that would end as a draw. I called it yesterday on here. Decent side Poland. Not a bad point that.”

Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore (‏@StanCollymore) wants England to enjoy their football again: “England needs to enjoy international football again, and express ability. At the root cause of every deficiency on display today.”

Former Northern Ireland international Jim Magilton ‏(@magilton7) felt Hodgson’s men were fortunate: “England outplayed!! Very lucky!!”

United defender Rio Ferdinand (‏@rioferdy5) reckons England will be fine if they win their home games: “Ok 1 – 1…..not a bad result….win our home games and we are sweet!”

Finally, Red Devils striker Rooney ‏(@WayneRooney) thanks England’s travelling fans: “The players’ @EFFCharity & @FA will cover ticket costs of every fan in the stadium tonight. Thanks to every one of them for their amazing support.”
