Liverpool’s Brendan Rodgers: It was a Luis Suárez ‘masterclass’ in finishing
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers says Luis Suárez's hat-trick in their 5-2 victory over Norwich was a "masterclass" in finishing
Brendan Rodgers hailed Luis Suárez’s “masterclass” in finishing after the striker scored a hat-trick to help Liverpool to a 5-2 victory over Norwich City at Carrow Road on Saturday.
The Uruguayan striker struck twice in the opening period to hand the Reds a commanding lead at half-time, before he netted his sixth Premier League goal of the season, with Steven Gerrard and Nuri Sahin also scoring.
Suárez also produced a hat-trick in a 3-0 win at Norwich’s home stadium back in April, and Rodgers was thrilled with the 24-year-old’s match-winning display as the Northern Irishman claimed his first league win as Reds manager.
“I remember his game last year and his goals were incredible,” Rodgers’ told Liverpool’s website.
“I’ve got to say, this was another masterclass in finishing.
“His first goal was terrific. We built it from behind and played through the lines. There was a nice combination on the edge of the box and he finished it
“His second one typifies him because 10 seconds earlier he missed probably his easiest chance [of the afternoon].
“He doesn’t get disappointed and immediately he gets back onto the ball and with an incredible piece of skill, he nutmegs the defender and finishes with the outside of his foot.
“It was a special day for him – and more importantly, a special day for the team.
“I thought the performance and how we got between the lines, and played and passed, and had relentless possession was pleasing.”
