Liverpool transfers: Brendan Rodgers plots January reinforcements
Liverpool transfers: Brendan Rodgers admits he is keen to strengthen his squad during the winter transfer window
Brendan Rodgers is keen to strengthen his “thin” Liverpool squad during the January transfer window.
The Reds let Andy Carroll move to West Ham United on a season-long loan on transfer deadline day but failed to bring in a replacement for the striker despite being linked with a swoop for Clint Dempsey.
Fabio Borini faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a fractured foot while on Under-21 international duty with Italy – and Rodgers admits the Merseysiders need to bring in some cover in January.
“There are still areas we want to reinforce and we have to reinforce as soon as we can,” Rodgers said.
“Our best team are comparable to any team in the Premier League. But we’re a very thin squad and we are having to challenge on a lot of fronts.
“I’ve had good conversations with the owners and they understand where we are at as a team.”
Liverpool are currently in 14th place in the Premier League table after winning just one of their opening seven top-flight games.
