London Welsh coach Lyn Jones: Gavin Henson was hugely influential
London Welsh head coach Lyn Jones heaps praise on Gavin Henson after the Wales star returned from injury against Saracens
It may have been a losing return but London Welsh head coach Lyn Jones insists Gavin Henson was hugely influential as he made his comeback for the Exiles.
The 30-year-old, who last featured for Wales in August 2011 and last in the Six Nations in 2009, had been denied a first Premiership start for London Welsh due to injury.
Henson suffered a fracture cheekbone in a pre-season clash with Scarlets in August but made his first start against Saracens, whom he made a handful of appearances for last term.
And, despite Saracens prevailing 28-23, Henson’s performance was worth the entrance fee as he kicked three penalties and converted two tries for a haul of 13 points.
And London Welsh head coach Jones was thoroughly impressed by Henson, who was part of the Welsh Grand Slam winning squads of 2005 and 2008.
Jones said: “I thought for his first game back in God knows how long, his performance was very good. He was hugely influential.”
