Man City 3 Sunderland 0: Roberto Mancini pleased with first clean sheet
Man City 3 Sunderland 0: Roberto Mancini praises the Citizens for keeping their first clean sheet of the season at the Etihad
Roberto Mancini praised Manchester City for keeping their first clean sheet of the season after the Citizens secured an emphatic victory over Sunderland at the Etihad Stadium.
Aleksandar Kolarov gave Mancini’s men a fourth-minute lead with a superb free-kick to take his tally to four goals for club and country this season.
Second-half substitute Sergio Aguero then netted from close-range after good work from Kolarov, before James Milner added a third in the 87th minute.
“I think in the first half, we missed two or three chances like other games but we had a good performance,” said Mancini.
“I think also in London against Fulham we did very well and against Stoke. Every game is difficult in this moment.
“I am happy because we got a clean sheet, scored three but also because of our performance.
“I hope that Kolarov can continue to score. I am happy with all players.
“You can only beat Sunderland if you play well, they have a strong squad.”
Mario Balotelli returned to City’s starting line-up after he was benched for the midweek clash against Borussia Dortmund – but the Italy international struggled to make an impact in a frustrating performance.
Despite the striker missing a glaring chance in the second half, Mancini was pleased with Balotelli’s effort against the Black Cats, although the Citizens manager admitted there is room for the striker to improve.
“Mario worked a lot, he had a chance, I am happy with Mario,” added Mancini.
“Mario played a good game, I think he can do better.”
