Man City’s Pablo Zabaleta: We must improve in the Champions League
Manchester City defender Pablo Zabaleta admits the Citizens must work harder and improve in the Champions League
Pablo Zabaleta admits Manchester City must work harder and try to improve in the Champions League after the Citizens were held to a 1-1 draw by Borussia Dortmund in their most recent Group D encounter.
Mario Balotelli scored a 89th-minute penalty to salvage a point for Roberto Mancini’s men after Marco Reus had put the visitors ahead earlier in the second half.
It leaves City in third place behind Real Madrid and Dortmund, with a double-header against Eredivisie champions Ajax up next for the Eastlands outfit.
“We know we can do better. It is time to work hard and try to improve,” said Zabaleta.
“We know it is going to be very difficult but we have to believe.
“We need to go to Amsterdam now and try to win. With only one point we have the pressure, but we need to be positive.”
He added: “It was a really tough game – we knew that before the game, they are a good side, but obviously we are disappointed because it is the Champions League and we need to try to win the home games.”
Zabaleta felt the Bundesliga champions were better than City on Tuesday night, but the Argentine defender reserved special praise for Joe Hart who made a string of top saves to deny Dortmund.
“Overall they were better than us but Joe Hart was fantastic, he showed he’s one of the best goalkeepers in the world right now,” he added.
“We have to thank him for the performance he gave.”
