Mark Hughes has revealed he warned Queens Park Rangers’ owners that his new-look side might struggle at the start of the Premier League campaign.

The QPR manager has come under increasing pressure in recent weeks, with the Hoops still searching for their first league win of the season.

Hughes’ men are currently rooted to the bottom of the table despite making 11 new signings during the summer, including high-profile names such as Esteban Granero and Júlio Cesar.

The 48-year-old insisted he flagged up the possibility that QPR might endure a difficult couple of months as their side takes shape, but Hughes is confident the west London club will improve.

“We all want to do well for Tony [Fernandes], Amit [Bhatia] and all the shareholders,” said Hughes.

“They’ve made a huge investment here and it’s our job to make sure they get the return on that.

“We’re all very positive in terms of what we’re trying to do as a club and where we want to take it.

“It’s been a difficult start to the season, but we discussed this before the season started.

“We said there may be a possibility this might occur and we would have to come through it.

“We’ll be in good shape by the end of the season, but initially, we did flag up that we might struggle.”

QPR face Everton at Loftus Road on Sunday as Hughes’ men look to end their winless run against David Moyes’ high-flying side.

Hughes admitted the Toffees’ superb start has surprised with the Merseyside outfit known as perennial slow starters, but he is confident the Hoops can still claim three points.

“They’ve had a really great start,” added Hughes.

“Historically, in recent times, they’ve been slow starters but they seem to have turned that around this season.

“So if they continue in the same vein, they’re going to have a really great season.

“It doesn’t make any difference from our point of view.

“We’re the home side and we’ve got to make sure that we defend correctly which has been our Achilles heel in recent times, make sure the opposition don’t get any opportunities, and take the game away from them.”
