Newcastle’s Alan Pardew: We’re in good shape for Man United clash
Newcastle manager Alan Pardew believes the Magpies are in good shape for their clash with Manchester United on Sunday
Alan Pardew believes Newcastle United are in “good shape” ahead of their encounter with Manchester United at St James’ Park on Sunday.
The Magpies are in impressive form and were emphatic 3-0 winners against Ligue 1 outfit Bordeaux in the Europa League on Thursday, leaving them top of Group D after two games.
Goals from Demba Ba and Yohan Cabaye helped Newcastle to a 3-0 home victory over Sir Alex Ferguson’s Red Devils last season, but Pardew insisted his side must forget about that win ahead of Sunday’s showdown.
“It was probably the stand-out result from our season [against United], and we were very proud of that,” said Pardew.
“But that is history and it’s gone now. So it’s about this game and we are in good shape.”
Pardew heaped praise on the Newcastle supporters for creating an intimidating atmosphere on Thursday night, and the Magpies boss hopes they can replicate that for the United fixture.
“It’s always great to see Manchester United come to our stadium and I’m hoping this place is rocking on Sunday,” explained Pardew.
“The fans played a massive part against Bordeaux on Thursday and we have now set the Manchester United game up – we have to make sure we put in a performance that follows that.
“When the stadium is like that it is difficult for any team, and our stadium will be rocking and rolling.”
