Tottenham 2 Chelsea 4: Gary Cahill thrilled with ‘fantastic’ victory
Tottenham 2 Chelsea 4: Gary Cahill is thrilled with the Blues' impressive victory at White Hart Lane after thrilling encounter
Gary Cahill hailed a “fantastic” win after Chelsea came from behind to beat Tottenham – but warned his team-mates against getting carried away with their impressive start to the season.
Cahill gave the Blues the lead in the 17th minute when he rifled home a volley from inside the box, but Spurs fought back after the break and equalised through William Gallas, before Jermain Defoe’s instinctive shot put the hosts in front.
Roberto Di Matteo’s men soon took control again however, when man-of-the-match Juan Mata’s quick-fire double restored the Blues’ advantage, before substitute Daniel Sturridge added gloss to the scoreline from close range.
“It was a tough game, we knew it was going to be like that, but it’s a fantastic result,” Cahill told Sky Sports.
“I thought we worked hard, created chances even when we started slowly after the break but we still kept going and Mata scored two fantastic goals.
“It keeps the momentum going. I think we’ve started the season well – it is only the start. But if we continue in the form we’ve show at the minute we won’t go far wrong.”
Mata was in sparkling form at White Hart Lane but the Spaniard preferred to point to the team performance as first-placed Chelsea maintained their unbeaten start to the season.
“It was a tough game, even more in the second half when they came back really well in 10 minutes,” said Mata. “But we are a team that always believes in our qualities and that’s what we did until the end.
“We are in a good run of results. What we have to do now is enjoy ourselves and keep going, keep training hard.”
