Luka Modrić believes his former Tottenham Hotspur team-mate Gareth Bale is “good enough” to play for Real Madrid and has urged the Wales winger to move to the Bernabeu.

The 23-year-old was unable to help Wales avoid a 2-0 defeat by Modrić’s Croatia on Tuesday night after his brace helped Chris Coleman’s side to a memorable victory over Scotland last week.

Former Real Madrid striker Davor Suker encouraged the Spurs winger to move to the Bernabeu ahead of the World Cup qualifier in Osijek, and Modrić admitted it would be “amazing” to be joined by Bale in the Spanish capital.

“I agree he should play for Real Madrid and I hope he’ll come,” Modrić, who joined Madrid this summer, told BBC Wales.

“It would be amazing and I think he can [play for Real Madrid]. He’s a good enough player.”

On Tuesday, Bale’s former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp insisted Bale was in the same class of Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo.

“He’s an amazing, amazing talent and he’s after the Ronaldos and Messis of this world and he’s getting better and better,” Redknapp told BBC Sport.

“He’s almost unplayable when he’s on his game. He is a genuine world-class player.

“There’s nobody he couldn’t play for. He’d improve any team.”
