A frustrated Arsène Wenger admitted his Arsenal side must improve defensively after the Gunners were held to a draw by Fulham in a six-goal thriller at The Emirates.

Wenger’s men had raced into a two-goal lead thanks to Olivier Giroud’s header and Lukas Podolski’s close-range finish.

But Dimitar Berbatov nodded home from a corner in the 29th minute, before the Bulgarian teed up Alex Kacaniklic’s 40th-minute equaliser.

Fulham then took the lead in the 67th minute when Berbatov netted a penalty after Mikel Arteta fouled Bryan Ruiz in the box, but Arsenal equalised moments later through Giroud.

The Gunners could have snatched a dramatic win but Arteta missed a last-minute penalty as Wenger’s men were forced to settle for a point at The Emirates, leaving them in seventh place in the table.

“It is very frustrating, because it’s difficult to score goals, but we have to continue to score and of course get defensively better,” Wenger told BBC Sport.

“I think Giroud has always been dangerous and he was a positive today. He raised questions and that’s good news for us. Berbatov had a good game today, and he has shown when he plays week in, week out he is still a very good player.”
