Arsène Wenger has expressed his dismay at seeing Arsenal’s Santi Cazorla called up to the Spain squad for next week’s friendly against Panama.

The 27-year-old playmaker, who has 50 caps, has been named as part of Vicente Del Bosque’s side travelling to Central America next week for Wednesday night’s game.

And Gunners boss Wenger has questioned the reasoning behind the next round of international friendlies.

“These friendlies in November – you don’t know how they can prepare you for a game in February,” Wenger told the Daily Mail.

“There are a lot of politics behind these games because when you see some teams travelling during that period, you think it is more to pay back some corporation rather than preparing a team for the next official game.

“I believe the friendly games are there as well to help some federations raise money playing against big teams.”

Cazorla has netted three goals and made three assists during an impressive start to his career in north London after joining Arsenal from Malaga in the summer.
