Wenger wants consistency from Arsenal ahead of Tottenham clash
Arsene Wenger is keen for Arsenal to string together a series of positive results ahead of Saturday's north London derby
Arsene Wenger is desperate for Arsenal to rediscover “consistency of results”, starting with victory over Tottenham in Saturday’s north London derby.
The Gunners have only won one of their last four games in all competitions and were held to a 3-3 draw by Fulham at The Emirates last weekend.
Wenger’s men are a point behind their north London rivals in eighth place in the table ahead of Saturday’s clash at Emirates Stadium.
And the Frenchman is keen to see his side string together a series of positive results after their recent dip in form.
“Every London derby is important,” said Wenger. “As well, we dropped some points recently and we want to come back in a more consistent way of results. That’s why, of course, it’s a good opportunity to do that tomorrow.
“The distance is not big. It’s early in the season. First of all, we play at the Emirates. We know that it’s important we are strong there.
“As well, for us, a successful season is down to consistency of results. At the moment that’s what we are looking for.”
Arsenal have finished above Spurs in the league for the last 17 seasons but Wenger admits his side’s north London rivals have been getting closer to ending that run in recent years.
“I get that question every year [whether Spurs are getting closer],” said the Arsenal boss.
“For some time, we were winning championships and they were not in the top four at all, so of course they’ve got closer in recent years. But fortunately we managed always to get above [them].
“They have a good side every year and they are a team who are now fighting with us. It’s important in the end to have consistency, and certainly the results in the two derbies can have a big influence as well on the qualifying spots for the Champions League.”
