Arsène Wenger has reiterated his desire to tie down Theo Walcott to a new Arsenal contract by the end of December.

The 23-year-old’s future has been a subject of constant speculation in recent months, with his current deal set to expire next summer.

Walcott has publicly expressed his desire to remain at Arsenal but is yet to sign a new contract.

But Gunners boss Wenger is hopeful the England international will commit his future to the north Londoners and insists the club will to the “maximum” to hold on to their key assets.

“My desire is to keep Theo,” said Wenger. “We do what’s needed to keep him and hopefully [as] I told you many times, we can sort this situation out very soon.

“Very soon is before the end of December – one way or another, that is for sure.

“I don’t want to go into any details but you can believe me [that] we do the maximum we can to keep our best players.”
