Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke declares his love for Arsenal after moving to Villa Park this summer
Christian Benteke has declared his love for Arsenal, with the Aston Villa striker naming Gunners legend Thierry Henry as his idol.
The 21-year-old has scored four goals for Paul Lambert’s side after completing a £7m move from Genk to Villa Park in August.
The Belgian has kept Villa’s £24m striker Darren Bent out of the first-team this term, with his manager describing him as “unplayable” after a particularly impressive debut against Swansea.
However, Benteke has risked the wrath of Villa supporters by declaring his affection for the Gunners, while the giant forward also admitted he thought his current employers were a London-based Premier League club.
“Arsenal are the club I love,” Benteke told the Sun.
“I like their philosophy of selecting young players and, besides, they had Thierry Henry.
“For me he is the best player in the world and was my boyhood idol. I’m not afraid of making enemies at Villa by saying I love Arsenal.”
He added: “When I joined Villa I didn’t know where they played. I thought they were a London club!
“One can say worse things. I’m a Villa player for now. They’re the right club at the right time.”
