I can fix Chelsea striker Torres, declares former sprint star Campbell
Ex-Olympic sprint champion Darren Campbell claims he would be able to swiftly improve the form of Chelsea's Fernando Torres
Former Olympic sprint champion Darren Campbell believes he would be able to quickly improve the form of misfiring Chelsea striker Fernando Torres.
Campbell, 39, has previously been involved at Chelsea when he worked with Andriy Shevchenko to improve the Ukrainian forward’s speed.
Torres has struggled to find any sort of consistent form at Stamford Bridge since joining the Blues from Liverpool in a £50m deal in January 2011.
And Campbell claims he would be able to reverse the Spain striker’s fortunes relatively swiftly if given the chance.
“I’m sure I could fix him. It doesn’t have to be a lengthy process because these guys are already extremely fit,” Campbell told the Telegraph.
“That’s the great thing about working with footballers and rugby players. You’re not having to worry about the base fitness so you just go in and teach the raw speed.
“In the case of Fernando, I think he would also probably need to do a bit of weightlifting as well as the running and the speed drills to put some power back into his muscles. That’s why sprinters lift weights, to gain that explosive speed and power.”
