Joe Launchbury is set to make his first Test start after England head coach Stuart Lancaster made six changes for Saturday’s Test against South Africa.

Lock Launchbury, 21, replaces Wasps team-mate Tom Palmer, who drops out of the 23, while prop Alex Corbisiero has recovered from a knee injury and will step in for the injured Joe Marler.

Tom Wood, who was a contender to be England captain for their Six Nations campaign before suffering a foot injury, is in at blindside flanker in the place of Exeter’s Tom Johnson, while Gloucester’s Ben Morgan is set to fill the No8 role.

In the backs, Lancaster has opted for Mike Brown ahead of Charlie Sharples, who starred against Samao, while Leicester scrum-half Ben Youngs is preferred to Harlequins’ Danny Care.

“We have picked a team that will give us the best chance of beating South Africa,” Lancaster said.

“There were some tight calls, which is what you want as coaches, but the players we have brought in to start have been training well, will bring a real motivation to make the most of their opportunity and will suit the challenge we face against a tough and physical South African team.”
